Handmade Kitchens from The Workshops of David T. Smith
Adirondack Kitchen
The owners of this 2003 log home wanted something different that would give the feel of the 1890’s lodges that were so popular in the mountains of upstate New York.
We started the design process by building a door and sidelights for the entry way. The door is made of mahogany and hand carved with a scene of what you see when the door is opened and you look through the house, out the back glass, at the stream and woods beyond.
The Adirondack style kitchen design is based on the simple design of basic Shaker-style cabinets with the addition of willow, birch bark, copper, antler, and painted trim. The doors are either flat paneled with square frames, plank doors, or doors with twig trim. The flush drawers are either painted or trimmed with twig as well. Some cabinets have open shelves and some have screen instead of glass.
The countertops and sink are soapstone and the hardware is a combination of turned wood knobs and antlers. The island countertop is cherry with a brown stain and oil finish.
All wall cabinets have low-voltage undercabinet task lighting.
We're very pleased to have had the opportunity to contribute to making this unique house a warm and comfortable home.
