Handmade Kitchens from The Workshops of David T. Smith

Contemporary Kitchen

This Contemporary style kitchen was built for a 1900’s house that lacked any distinct interior style for us to follow. The owners, who collect antiques, wanted the kitchen to have a clean, classic, but somewhat contemporary style.

For this style kitchen, they chose curly maple cabinets with flat panel doors with square frames, flush drawers, and ogee crown moldings. The cabinet bases are a combination of traditional flat bases and modern “toe-kick" style bases.

The countertops are a light-toned contemporary granite and the hardware is turned Shaker wooden knobs. The owners chose to use commercial stainless appliances throughout the kitchen.

The curly maple bookcase square panel arch separates the kitchen from the dining room while still allowing them to be open to each other.

A bathroom was moved to a more convenient location so the space could be used for the cherry bar, pantry, and a cookbook cupboard.

All the wall cabinets have low voltage under-cabinet task lighting.

This is the second kitchen we’ve designed and built for this family, and it blends in very well with their collection of fine antiques.
