Handmade Kitchens from The Workshops of David T. Smith
Traditional Kitchen
This house was built in 2003 as the featured home in Dayton, Ohio’s 2003 Homearama. This Traditional style kitchen is a very upscale, mainstream design with a more traditional, rich look - note the cherry/curly maple cabinets, black granite counter tops, and commercial stainless appliances.
The cabinets are cherry with raised panel doors with molded face frames, raised drawers, and curly maple cockbeading that projects from the face of the cabinets. The bracket base and ogee crown molding with bullnose cap are in the Chippendale style. The hardware is 18th century brass knobs with an aged finish.
One unique feature of this kitchen is the cabinet in the cooking cupboard which houses a commercial exhaust hood. It has arched raised panels and a Queen Anne curved crown molding with an applied carving. Another special feature is the handmade stained glass over the sink.
The painted island accents the rich cabinets to soften the overall look of the kitchen and is built to appear as an “as found” antique piece. It has raised panel doors, flush drawers, curved Shaker feet, and a cherry wood top on the upper serving surface. It will accommodate four barstools.
The black granite counter tops have touches of color which tie in with the cherry wood and white painted island.
All the wall cabinets have low-voltage undercabinet task lighting, and the commercial stainless appliances show that this is a “cook’s” kitchen.
