Over the many years that I have frequented major museums all over the country,
I have spent most of my time in the American exhibits.
However, I have always been drawn to the displays of art made by the tribal peoples,
and of the Amerindian tribes of America, period 500 B.C. to A.D. 1500.
I grew up on a farm where it was no surprise to pick a perfect arrowhead,
or even a hand honed tool, from the freshly tilled cornfield just outside my door.
Just a few miles away, I would visit Ft. Ancient State Memorial, a major American Indian mound builder site.
The pottery from so many of these tribes was inspired by their daily lives, the seasons of the earth, and their spiritual beliefs.
To make pieces that were so basic to their human existence, but decorated in such an artful way is truly amazing.
I have always been inspired by these works of art.
We are happy to present the first look at Turtlecreek Potters new line, Earthen Artifacts.
Handmade and one-of-a-kind, each piece captures the primitive tribal feel that is inherent to the original pieces found around the world,
yet is crafted to be used in today’s architectural settings.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
