From the country they came from, our ancestors brought with them the art of their home country. This art was used to decorate furniture, barns, pottery, textiles, and items of daily use. Seeing these decorations on their daily use and utilitarian items must have reminded them of their roots and the home land where they were born.
Other folk art was created as a decorative piece with no practical use. Paintings, theorems, frakturs, and carvings are examples of items that were made for decoration. Sometimes, the use of a distinctive color, or color combination, can turn a common piece into folk art.
The items that we feature in our Accessories & Folk Art section, are either antiques, antiques that we have enhanced with our museum paint, American made reproductions of period folk art or daily use items, or wood smalls made by The Workshops of David T. Smith. All items are American made and as they are antiques, or antique reproductions, they will have logical age and distress. They have the authentic style, construction, and finish of the original antiques so sought after today.
