Finishes and Details

The Workshops of David T. Smith has long been known for their authentic finishes. Our Museum painted finish and our Time Worn stained wood finish have set the standard that all other reproduction furniture makers try to imitate.

By studying the antique pieces, we have taught ourselves to design a finish which has the look and feel of a finish that was created 150 years ago.

These pieces have what we call the “Logical Wear” of the antiques. This wear is around the feet, the knobs, and on the edges of doors and drawers. Every piece is worn a little different to give each piece its own personality.

We also offer our “Designer “ finish which has a more modern/contemporary feel and our “Original” painted finish which has moderate age and distress.

Our grain painted and smoke decorated furniture is also very poplar among antique collectors who appreciate these rare decorated antique pieces.

The finish is always the icing on the cake.
