learn about our kitchens.
The kitchen is the heart of your home.
Inspired by the craftsmanship of fine antique furniture and influenced by the demands of contemporary life, The Workshops of David T. Smith builds custom designed, one of a kind kitchens that will be a pleasure to use and will add value to your home.

Your kitchen will have the appearance of fine furniture while offering all the functionality of modern life - hidden dishwashers, task lighting, the most modern appliances and pull-out pantry cupboards. Although most of our countertops are curly maple wood, cherry wood or soapstone, we also work with local suppliers of granite and solid-surface countertops.

If your home is historic, and/or has interesting architectural features (mantles, built-in cupboards, moldings, etc.), we can incorporate those details into the kitchen to give the appearance that the cabinets are original to, and are harmonious with, the house. Because our kitchens are built from scratch, any design or custom application is possible.

For the design process, along with our talented, experienced designers, we utilize a very sophisticated computer drawing program that will show your kitchen in plan view, elevation view, and in both black & white and color 3-D renditions.

Here's how our Kitchen Design Process works:
Provide us, via fax or mail, with proposed project drawings. Upon review of those drawings, we can provide you a ballpark cost estimate. If we fall within your budget, we can then complete more detailed drawings which will show you our basic project design and enable us to provide you a more exact kitchen cost. We will share and discuss our design and drawings with you at our shop, your home, or via an internet meeting.

Upon contract signing, your kitchen is placed in our production schedule. We will then provide you with drawings, color samples, design details, and information regarding our sources that we have developed for kitchen appliances, sinks, faucets, etc. At this point, we can also provide you with our “Kitchen Design Worksheets”. Upon your completion of these thought provoking forms, we will have the information needed to finalize the design of your project. Much of this work is done by internet. We may visit your site several times during the process, and you are always welcome to visit our showrooms in Morrow, Ohio .

We will require a final sign-off date on the design drawings so that we may meet your scheduled/projected installation date. However, until that date, your design is a work in process that can be changed as the project moves forward.

We design, build, finish, and install your kitchen cabinets. This insures our quality standards are maintained to the end of the project. When we work with a non-local client, we can work directly with the homeowner, or the homeowners' choice of contractor local to them. The contractor will be responsible for any onsite work (structural, plumbing, electrical, flooring, etc.), as well as making the necessary electrical and plumbing connections after the kitchen is installed by The Workshops of David T. Smith.

We have designed and built over 300 kitchens. We understand what an exciting, yet overwhelming, experience it can be. We thoroughly enjoy the process and can expertly guide you and assist you with your project. Get creative, expand your boundaries and reinvent your kitchen. By following your imagination, rather than any trend, you will be rewarded with a kitchen that will endure.

We would love to hear about your project. If you have questions or would like to discuss your project,
please visit our Contact Us page, or our Register page and please include the "Open" dates you are interested in.
One of our designers, or David, will contact you.
